Poverty

This module encounters the multi-faceted nature of poverty in both, developing and industrialised countries

Gender

„Poverty is not neutral to gender.“ Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (German Association for International Cooperation)

That means that women and men, boys and girls are not equally affected by poverty.

When you think about your environment and your circle of acquaintances, do you notice differences between women and men in this respect? Think about income, leadership, maternity leave, caring activities…

Worldwide, but especially in the least developed countries (LDCs), access to education, land, credit and modern technology for women is low. Overcoming poverty through their own efforts is therefore a distant goal for many. Several studies deal with the relationship between education and gender and find that the education of girls and women has a number of positive effects. It has an influence on the health of mothers and children, the birth rate, HIV / AIDS and other diseases and thus ultimately on poverty reduction and economic growth.

In your opinion what are the reasons why girls and women are affected more heavily by poverty worldwide?
