Globalisation

The module explains global interdependencies, its controversial aspects and how it affects our daily lives

Practical exercise relating to your daily schedule

To be aware of how globalisation affects your life and how you are networked with the world, it pays to answer the following questions. Look at the packaging of your food and products closely and, if necessary, search for missing information on the Internet.

  • Where do the coffee, tea and orange juice you drink come from?
  • Do you eat chocolate from time to time? Where are the ingredients from?
  • Which parts of the world do the TV, radio and newspaper reports discuss?
  • Which country was your laptop produced in?
  • Where does the furniture in your flat come from?
  • Do you have an account with a social network (Facebook, Twitter, Google+, MySpace, Xing…)?
  • Where do the jeans and t-shirt which you are wearing come from?
  • Aside from Amnesty International, do you know of any non-governmental organisations (NGOs) or other international organisations, which work globally?
  • In which country was your car produced?
  • How many languages do you speak?
  • Have you travelled outside the EU on holiday in recent years?
  • Which country does your favourite TV series come from?
