Critical thinking
This topic shows you how to think critically, find hidden contexts and read between the lines
Hidden premise and conclusion
However, in the argumentation it often happens that one of the premises or even the conclusion remains hidden somewhere between the lines, therefore it is more difficult to identify them.
Example of hidden conclusion
Argument: „I don’t understand why are you smoking. Smoking is unhealthy” split into the formula looks like this:
(1) Smoking harms the health.
(2) You smoke.
(3) Smoking is harming you.
Conclusion “Smoking is harming you” is hidden in this argument, but it is said between lines.
Example of hidden premise
Argument: “Of course he knows Pythagoras sentence, he is a teacher of maths” split into formula looks like this:
(1) all teachers of maths know Pythagoras sentence (hidden premise)
(2) he is a teacher of maths
(3) he knows Pythagoras sentence
