Gender equality

This topic reveals what gender equality means and how gender roles are projected to our social reality

Gender

Gender is a term which refers to „Cultural Sex".

This term refers to „Cultural Sex". It means that what causes different perceptions of women and men, femininity and masculinity in society, are not sex (biological) differences but comprehensions of the society which do not relate to our bodies. Different cultures characterize masculinity and femininity differently - what is considered feminine in one culture, during one time period, is considered masculine in another time period or country, or it is not in any way related to masculinity and femininity in that society.

The term Gender is not only a substitute for the word Sex , it does not only refer to people, but to an entire social reality – in terms of behaviour we are also used to saying that it is masculine or feminine , we call some work feminine , other work masculine. Gender also refers to the way we perceive reality, how we evaluate phenomena and how the environment shapes our possibilities and limits.

Gender enables us to better understand how society created inequality between women and men but also what makes female and male activities or characteristics perceived as unequal.
