36 mobile phones are produced every second. The technology is always advancing and users are constantly being offered new models although their „old“ mobiles are still fully functional. Due to this mobile telephones have an average shelf life of 18 months. Many end up in the trash. Others lie dormant in drawers. In total 50 million tonnes of electronic waste is produced globally. What happens to it? Annie Leonard gave an insight into this in an episode of the „Story of Stuff“.
